Projects We Support

Backing Programs That Build Stronger Futures

Strong Communities is committed to supporting meaningful, local initiatives that create positive, lasting change for children, families, individuals and communities. Every project we deliver is designed to strengthen relationships, build resilience, reduce isolation, and empower people to thrive.

Thanks to purchases through our community store, community donations, and local sponsorships, we are able to deliver free or low-cost services to families across Central Queensland.

2025 Projects in Action

Here’s how we are making an impact this year:

1. Supported Playgroups

Our Nurture & Nutrition (NaN) supported playgroups provide a welcoming, safe, and nurturing space where parents and caregivers can build connections while children engage in early learning through play. Each session includes guided activities, parenting support, and healthy food. In 2025, we are delivering over 120 free sessions across Boyne Island, Calliope, and Gladstone, with a focus on supporting vulnerable families and reducing isolation.

2. Evidence-Based Parenting Programs

We deliver trusted parenting programs such as Circle of Security and Tuning in to Kids, equipping caregivers with the tools to better understand their child’s emotional needs and strengthen attachment. These programs build confidence, reduce stress, and support long-term emotional wellbeing for families.

3. The Calliope Community Hub

In 2025, we are developing the Calliope Community Hub as a central, inclusive space where local families can access free programs, parenting support, and community connection. This project strengthens place-based service delivery and brings together early years programs, parenting workshops, cultural inclusion activities, and community events all under one roof. It is designed to meet the growing needs of Calliope families and create a lasting sense of belonging.

4. School Holiday Programs and Community Events

We deliver free and low-cost school holiday programs to keep children and their families engaged and supported during school breaks. Activities are designed to be fun, inclusive, and enriching for all ages. In addition, our large-scale community events, like the Community & Family Fun Days, bring hundreds of families together for connection, celebration, and access to local services. These events are vital for building strong social networks and promoting community wellbeing.

What’s Ahead in 2026

Looking ahead, we are preparing to grow our impact and respond to the evolving needs of the communities we serve. These are the key projects we’re working towards:

1. Expanding Supported Playgroups in the Community

We are committed to reaching more families by developing creative and flexible ways to deliver our Nurture & Nutrition supported playgroups and continue running them in 2026. This includes exploring low-cost paid sessions, online sessions, outreach programs, and partnerships. Our goal is to ensure every family can access the benefits of playgroup, connection, and parenting support no matter where they live or their circumstances.

2. Increased Grief, Loss and Change Support

We are working to grow our grief and loss programs to offer more sessions, new locations, and improved access for individuals who have experienced grief, loss and change. This includes the potential for specialised support groups, training for additional facilitators, and online access to support for regional families.

3. Wellbeing and Enrichment Activities at the Hub

We plan to introduce community wellbeing and enrichment sessions through the Calliope Community Hub. These will include activities such as art classes, yoga, mindfulness workshops, and creative sessions for adults and families. These programs are designed to support emotional wellbeing, reduce isolation, and offer community members a chance to reconnect with themselves and others in a safe and welcoming space.

We are excited about the future and the opportunities to strengthen families and communities together. If you have any feedback, ideas, or projects you would like to suggest, we would love to hear from you. Your voice helps shape the services we provide.
